  • Marcee’s Corner – January 2018

Happy New Year! It doesn’t seem possible but here it is, 2018!

We look forward to a great year and working hard to make sure we are providing healthy and tasty meals. I want to make this a short message so I can save space for our big announcement. You may have seen the article in the newspaper, but if not, please check out the article below about a couple who donated a commercial property to Meals on Wheels. They also want to make sure that other people are encouraged to make significant donations
through their charitable giving and estate planning to support Meals on Wheels. Enjoy the New Year.

  • Marcee’s Corner – December 2017

As the year comes to a close, we are busy preparing for winter weather here at Meals on Wheels. If your meals are delivered to your home, you should have received a five meal “shelf stable” meal box to use in case we can’t deliver meals due to a winter storm. If you did not receive this box, please call your site manager.

Now is also a good time to think about making some preparations of your own. Make sure you have plenty of easy-to-prepare food and some bottled water on hand, and check the batteries in your flashlight. If you wake up to snow or ice, please listen to local radio or TV stations to see if Meals on Wheels is
serving or delivering meals. We not only want you to be safe, but also want to keep our volunteers safe and off icy roads and sidewalks.

We here at Meals on Wheels wish you and those you love a very happy and healthy holiday.

Meals on Wheels – 2018 Subaru Outback Donation Event

Mid- Columbia Meals on Wheels has been chosen as 1 of 50 recipients in the nation to receive a new 2018 Subaru Outback. Please join us for the vehicle presentation to support our local Meals on Wheels.

Pasco, Washington October 23, 2017, – Several months ago Marcee Woffinden, Nutrition Services Director at Senior Life Resources – Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels, submitted an application to receive 1 of 50 2018 Subaru Outback’s donated by Subaru of America. She proposed that the new Subaru would be used to increase meal deliveries in our rural area by having it take a different rural route each day of the week.

Subaru has supported Meals on Wheels for the last nine years through Share the Love, contributing more than $12 million to Meals on Wheels America and providing more than 1.7 million nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks to seniors in communities nationwide. Subaru announced the donation to its 630-strong retailer body at the company’s National Business Conference in Denver, CO. This was particularly appropriate as Subaru retailers participate in the company’s annual Share the Love event and donate to causes in their local community. The company’s ’50 Cars for 50 Years’ vehicle donation will enable Meals on Wheels programs to deliver more nutritious meals and moments of companionship, expanding its reach to seniors in need.

Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels staff & board members, McCurley Integrity Subaru and Subaru of America will be on hand this Thursday to present the new Outback to the organization.“It will be the dealerships privilege to deliver the vehicle and help Meals on Wheels start their ownership experience off on the right foot” said Mason McCurley, President of McCurley Integrity Subaru. “We have had a long standing partnership supporting Senior Life Resources and look forward to again supporting the mission this year during the Share the Love event to be held in November and December”.

  • Meals on Wheels receives $10,000 matching donation

Meals on Wheels receives $10,000 matching donation

Senior Life Resources Northwest is excited to announce that its Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels program that provides seniors with nutritious meals, social contact, and well-being checks is the recipient of a very generous donation from a Richland couple. Tom and Della Seim, longtime supporters and advocates for the Meals on Wheels program, put out a challenge to others in our community. In late July Tom and Della announced that they would match community members who took up the “Double our Money” challenge, dollar for dollar up to $10,000, until midnight September 30th. It started slowly but as the last days of September loomed momentum grew. In fact, as the deadline drew to a close the challengers had contributed $11,000, $1000 more than needed to get the full $10,000 from the Seim’s generous challenge.

Tom and Della Seim will present their check to Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels at 1:00 on Monday October 23rd. This will take place at the Meals on Wheels café at 1834 Fowler Street. Members of the public are welcome to come and share this presentation with us, as we recognize this, the latest of many generous acts of time, expertise, interest, support, and donations that Tom and Della Seim have contributed in over 25 years of association with the Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels program. Funding for meals has benefited by $21,000 thanks to them.

$21,000 fully funds nearly 3,000 warm, tasty, nutritious meals. Eight vulnerable seniors will receive a meal every day of the week, for a whole year. It is easy to see how critically important such generosity is when you consider that Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels is on track to prepare and serve 185,000 meals this year, nearly 12,000 MORE meals in 2017 than in 2016. Demand continues to grow, traditional funding dollars are steady or declining and it takes our community members, like Tom and Della Seim and those who rose to the challenge, to build sustaining support to bridge the widening gap.

  • Marcee’s Corner September 2017

We have been awarded a brand new 2018 Subaru Outback. Through Meals on Wheels America, we submitted a proposal to receive one of 50 cars donated by Subaru of America to Meals on Wheels programs across the country. I am pleased to share that we were one of the programs selected from over 200 that applied to receive a car!

It will take a couple months for our Subaru to arrive at our office. When it does, we will put it to good use to help deliver meals to rural areas that we can’t get to every day.  Thank you to Subaru of America in helping us better serve seniors in our community!
